The first of 11 kits to be installed on my layout. This is the Lineside Shed. I have decided to use it as the operation shed at the turntable. It will house the office and the work shop for the turntable employees. It incorporates my technique of pouring concretes slabs for most of the buildings I am installing.
This series of pictures are the bench shots, taken on my workbench. They show the building before it is placed on the layout and more details added.
These are the interior shots. I mad the roof removable to view the inside. It will be hard to see on the layout so I think a small mirror to hold in one’s hand will be standard issue, along with a magnifying glass.

Now the building is installed on the layout and the detailing has began. I try to put myself “physically” in the model scene a place items where I would put them in the real world.

The trash pile grows with the addition of cardboard boxes. I make these from heavy weight paper and colored to look like cardboard, sort of. Spool of cable for the turntable, rusted barrels. Old gears and lineshaft wheel also left to rust away.
A “to scale” 24’ wood extension ladder, not unlike the kind I use on the Fire Department for many years. This is a totally scratchbuilt ladder. Use of metal stranded cable in effect. Scale 12” rungs.
Side views of the building, the back gate and what’s behind the fence, you always wanted to know but were afraid to ask.
The turntable takes a special grease imported from far, far away. They pack it in these fancy pearlwhite 30gal drums with the green label. A little goes a long way, I think they got a good deal on a bulk purchase.
